Bengal to Get Its Own GST Tribunal in December

Kolkata: Starting December, West Bengal will establish its own Goods and Services Tax (GST) Appellate Tribunal, a move aimed at ensuring quicker resolution of tax-related disputes.

According to official sources, the tribunal will handle appeals against GST orders issued by adjudicating authorities and commissioners, reducing the burden on the state’s high courts where many such cases are currently pending.

Welcoming the initiative, Confederation of West Bengal Trade Associations (CWBTA) president Sushil Poddar said, “The opening of a GST appellate tribunal in Bengal will be a major relief for small and medium businesses. Taxpayers will no longer need to travel to other states or approach the high court for appeals. This will make the process faster, fairer, and more accessible.”

The establishment of the tribunal is expected to streamline the appellate process and provide a more efficient framework for resolving tax disputes in the state.
