CBIC warns against fake GST notices, urges taxpayers to verify DIN

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on Friday warned businesses about a rise in fake GST notices and urged taxpayers to report such frauds immediately.

Responding to a complaint posted by a social media user on X about receiving a call from a person posing as a GST officer, the CBIC said that fraudsters are circulating fake summons that closely resemble official GST communications. These forged notices often carry the CGST logo and fabricated Document Identification Numbers (DINs) to appear authentic, the Board noted.

The CBIC advised taxpayers to verify the DIN mentioned in every official communication through the CBIC portal. “If the document is genuine, the system will confirm it. If not, it should be reported immediately,” the CBIC said.
