India’s goods and services tax (GST) collections rose 6.2% year-on-year to ₹1.93 lakh crore in January 2026, compared with ₹1.82 lakh crore in the same month last year, according to sources. The growth was supported by steady expansion in both domestic transactions and imports, signalling continued momentum in economic activity.

Domestic GST revenue stood at ₹1.41 lakh crore during the month, marking a 4.8% increase from ₹1.35 lakh crore in January 2025. GST collections from imports grew at a faster pace, rising 10.1% year-on-year to ₹52,253 crore.

After accounting for refunds, net GST revenue for January 2026 was ₹1.70 lakh crore, up 7.6% from a year earlier. Total refunds issued during the month declined 3.1% to ₹22,665 crore, further supporting net collections.

On a cumulative basis, gross GST collections for the April–January period of 2025-26 reached ₹18.43 lakh crore, registering an 8.3% increase over ₹17.02 lakh crore collected in the corresponding period last year.

Net GST revenue during the same period rose 6.8% to ₹15.96 lakh crore, underscoring sustained revenue buoyancy despite higher refunds and some moderation in state-wise collections.
